I sit on my butt for a living. Sometimes, my sitting involves pressing buttons on the keyboard. At other times, sitting means reading the screen or listening to audio. Many times, I simply sit and stare through the window. There’s also sitting for transportation and entertainment.

At a recent point in my life, I started feeling much older than I should. I felt some weird pressure built up in my right leg. I couldn’t ignore my scoliosis during a morning shower anymore. My energy levels were pathetic. At 25, my youth was waving goodbye.

The problem with exercise

Naturally, I figured exercise was the answer. As with everything in life, I went all in. I bought some weights and started lifting them. Right here, at home.

I’m not going to lie, it felt great for a while. But there’s a catch.

Exercise is a big f*cking commitment if you do it right. First of all, it’s a shock for your entire body. Your body is not used to exert all this extra energy. You’ll crave different foods at different times of the day. This will, in turn, wreak havoc on your digestive tract — until it adapts.

Of course, this is all temporary. All change is uncomfortable. But I wish I was more honest…
