Fascinating story. I think the first guy simply didn’t care. He was giving you some lazy advice while making himself feel cool and mentorly, of whatever other reason he had.

The other guy didn’t actually give you advice - he simply asked you questions. And he cared, because he was in a similar situation. So the questions were good.
