I think big tech products become very dangerous when they start playing with curation too much. That's when it starts resembling a political system from a century or two ago.

As for the globalization/connection aspect, I can't take your view because big tech products actually play a major role in my life. I can be connected with a person on the other side of the continent as if they were next door. I can access entertainment and education I'd never get in my country. I'm not even talking about career opportunities/scale, as a writer in a country of 3 mil people with its own language.

People are rapidly learning that social media and all forms of digital entertainment can be harmful and addictive. They're learning that they can tailor their feeds so they don't feed on the accidental toxicity. It's a powerful technology - we just need to learn how to use it better.
