I think we expect too much of social media networks. I've stopped using them as a way to grow ages ago, and I've been perfectly happy with them ever since. Nowadays, I just treat them as a sort of public square - a place where you go to catch up with what the people are up to. That is valuable information on its own.

Whereas if you really want to learn something, you open a book, or you go to talk to somebody. Very different process. Doesn't mean that the public square is doing something wrong.
