This is particularly true in creative industries. So many movie sequels that shouldn't have been made. Just watched the new John Wick recently (that's a fourth in the series), and it almost felt like they were bored making it. Dialogues pretty flat, choreography uninspired and reused from older movies, storyline confused as hell. Lots of good cinematics and a few interesting characters. But overall, it felt like they should've moved on.

I feel like the Ridley Scott approach should be the gold standard for all creatives: when in doubt, push for something new. I once saw a video where he explained how Alien was a completely new genre for him, and that he had to build up his understanding as he went. The result? One of the best movies of all time.
