To Show Your Boss You’re Not Just Another Entitled Millennial, Ask These 2 Questions

Millennials are the most entitled generation the world has ever seen. Fact.

We’ve been told by our parents that we can have anything we want. We’ve been told that we’re smart, even when the evidence suggested otherwise. We’ve been told that it’s the teacher who’s wrong. That other boy, his parents must have raised him wrong.

We’re the PC generation, too. In my childhood, smartphones hadn’t been invented yet, and playing story-based MMO’s was the hottest thing there was. In those games, you’re the hero. You’re the chosen one.

We’re the Harry Potter generation. In Lord of the Rings, the myth that shaped our grandparents, the main character— Frodo — volunteers to be the all-sacrificing hero. In Harry Potter, the hero is born The Chosen One.

It’s not difficult to see why Millennials are properly confused when entering the workplace. What do you mean, I have to fill out spreadsheets all day for near-minimum wage? Where’s my damn quest? When do I get to be the hero?

It’s not exactly our fault. As Simon Sinek once said, we’ve been dealt a bad hand.
